Project: Fietsbank
In Rotterdam, cycling is encouraged as an affordable and healthy way to get around, but not everyone has the means to buy a bike. This is why Give a Bike Foundation joins the Fietsbank project, organized by Rotterdam Municipality. Through this initiative, residents of Rotterdam neighborhoods who have a low income can receive a free second-hand bicycle (Rotterdam Municipality, n.d.).
The Give a Bike Foundation repairs donated bicycles, ensuring they’re safe and ready for their new owners. Their workshop serves as a convenient drop-off location for bicycle donations, making it easy for Rotterdam residents to contribute to this cause. Since starting their work with Fietsbank, the foundation has already given away nearly 100 bicycles, helping to bring the joy and practicality of cycling to those who need it most.
Through this collective effort, the Give a Bike aims to reduce barriers to cycling, promote sustainable transportation, and give old bicycles a second life. The Give a Bike Foundation is proud to be part of this mission, providing opportunities for more Rotterdammers to experience the freedom of riding a bicycle.
