BICYCLES FOR SCHOOLCHILDREN IN SIERRA LEONE

This project was our first “solo” project which involved the overseas shipment of a container filled to the brim with refurbished bicycles!

The bicycles were received by the organization Street Child – Sierra Leone and were distributed to schools throughout Kenema District. The bicycles will help children travel to and from school – a commute which very often involves long distances, and can therefore be a barrier to attendance. In addition to the bicycles, 9 different extensive repair kits were prepared and distributed alongside spare bicycle parts to make sure the lifetime of the bicycles can be extended into the future.

This project was financially supported by a fundraiser launched throughout November 2020, which gained the support of 96 individuals and helped raise a total of 5210 Euro!

We would like to take a moment to thank all those that contributed with bicycles, bicycle parts, and fundraiser donations! Thank you also to all the staff of Street Child which took charge with the distribution of the bicycles and ensured they reached their new home. We would also like to thank all our volunteers and volunteers from Stichting Pluspunt Rotterdam West which helped refurbish the bicycles, arrange the logistics, and helped load the container. 

This project was initiated by our friend and partner Matthias, who is passionate and dedicated about supporting livelihoods, especially of schoolchildren, in his home country of Sierra Leone. This project would never have been realized had it not been for him, his partner Anne-Claire, and their friend Willemijn – thank you all for this dream collaboration!
